Wellness Coach (P420 Class)

The first experience that I would like to share is when I practiced wellness coaching in one of courses at IUPUI. In the class, which I took in Spring 2021, we were instructed to find a person who wants help improve on their health and well-being by encouraging them with implementing behaviors to help them succeed in their goals. The main goal for my client was she wanted some ideas on how she can improve her weight loss and fitness even though she feels that she did not have much time to exercise in the traditional setting in a gym. Every week we would meet and discuss her progress with implementing the methods I suggested for 6 weeks.

Team Leader (Camp Brosius R275)

I then took a course in the summer in that same year which was commonly known as at IUPUI called Camp Brosius, which was a course where IUPUI students would go down to a camp located in Wyoming and were in charge of a group. This course would teach us how to step up as leaders and work on team building within some difficult but fun tasks and help them function as a team. Unfortunately, we could not do this in the normal setting and with complete strangers due to COVID. Instead, we did it throughout IUPUI campus and I would help lead in a couple tasks with my group or family made up of my fellow students. I still think this was more enjoyable since it was a lot easier to lead with people you have been around for a year or two.

Personal Trainer (Motor Activity Clinic P410)

Also, within that same semester in 2021, I also was taking a course where I was a personal trainer for a young adult with a physical disability, where I designed and developed exercise regimens within an 8-week program called the Motor Activity Clinic. My client was definitely a great fit for me, and I was so glad that I wanted to switch to an in-person form of training instead of using Zoom, because in-person was easier, personal, and enjoyable.

Personal Trainer (INShape P443)

Finally, I am currently in an internship within IUPUI, which is completely a unique concept especially for a university. In the "internal" internship, I am conducting myself as a personal trainer at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports or NIFS in an 8-week exercise program called InShape. In InShape I am in charge of a client and help them meet their health and fitness goals. Luckily, I have a client who is willing to try basically any form of exercise you can think of and pushes himself. He always does his "homework" I give him since we can only meet on Mondays and Wednesdays and goes beyond what I ask.
